Superfood company ready to supersize
Award winning Ngā Rauru firm Kaitahi, also known as The Native Superfood Company, has outgrown its Waverley base.
It has secured a loan of $1.2 million from the Provincial Growth Fund to help it build a factory in Whanganui.
Director Hayden Potaka says up to now Kaitahi could not keep up with demand at its Waverley premises and had to outsource some of the production of its freeze dried smoothie drops.
The new facility will provide 12 production line jobs and 25 part-time jobs in growing and gathering ingredients such as pūhā, kūmara, kawakawa, blueberries and honey.
He says the produce will ideally come from its own Kii Tahi plant nursery and landcare business in Pātea.
Mr Potaka says Kaitahi is keen to export its products and to develop new food and beverage products using native ingredients.
