Navigators to help disable negotiate health support
Help is near for people struggling or unable to work because of illness or disability.
The National Hauora Coalition in partnership with the Ministry of Social Development, ProCare and Pegasus Health is trialling a scheme where health navigators or kaimanaaki work alongside GPs and Work and Income case managers to help them find work, study or volunteering opportunities.
Executive lead Rachael Brown says the Here Toitu programme is about removing barriers.
"We have to deal with some of the priority issues for whānau around 'I can't get my health insurance signed off for my doctor, I have access, my medication has run out,' so that's where the kaimanaaki come in and work with the whānau to help them meet their needs," she says.
