Morrisons compete to make Māori fun
Te reo Māori advocate Stacey Morrison hopes her new book will kick off a few friendly rivalries.
Māori Made Fun is the second such collaboration between the broadcaster and husband Scotty Morrison aimed at making te reo easier and more accessible for both beginners and more confident speakers.
It features crosswords, word finds, rhyming riddles, visual puzzles, colouring-in, code crackers and number puzzles.
She says the new book appeals to Māori people's inherent competitiveness.
"You want to win and so you go hard and forget any whakamā you might have so when we have quiz nights or when we have any sort of competition in a wānanga setting it's always good for disarming people. They go 'I want to win.' and they forget they're even trying to learn or say something in the reo It's just one of those investive ways of coming at te reo," Ms Morrisson says.
Scotty Morrison's 'Maori Made Easy' was voted by readers into the number 53 spot in the Whitcoull’s annual Top 100 Books List.
