No shame in asking for help
A Rotorua charity is helping struggling whānau find warm clothes for their tamariki this winter.
Save Our Babies founder Kahira-Rata Olley says it's looking for items like jackets, socks and undies for tamariki between 6 months and 13 years old.
She says no whānau should feel ashamed to ask for help, whether it's clothes, food or other necessities.
"I had a māmā message me asking if I could take some lunches to her babies today because she had a high power bill and she was so whakamā. She's never reached out before and I said 'Don't be. Just don't be whakamā. We are all in this together.' Regardless whether we know these people or not they are part of us, they are a part of who we are, they are part of our community, and everybody matters," she says.
Those who wish to make drop-offs can contact the charity through the Save Our Babies Charitable Trust Facebook page.
