Two Maori for Criminal Cases Review Commission oversight board

South Auckland barrister Kingi Snelgar and University of Auckland indigenous studies professor Tracey McIntosh has been appointed to the new Criminal Cases Review Commission.
Other members joining commission chair Colin Carruthers QC are Parole Board member and former police officer Paula Rose as deputy chief commissioner, Palmerston North deputy mayor and justice of the peace Tangi Utikere, Nigel Hampton QC, and health scientist Dr Virginia Hope.
Justice Minister Andrew Little said it was important that the board has a mixture of legal expertise, governance experience and subject matter knowledge.
The commission, which was a commitment in the Labour-New Zealand First coalition agreement, will begin receiving applications for review of convictions and sentences from July 1.
