Cell tower attacks bad science, bad politics
A Māori technology commentator says people are more at risk standing in front of their microwave than from 5G.
There have been a spate of attacks on cellphone towers including several in south Auckland.
Earlier theories of harmful radiation have been added to with claims there is a connection between the next-generation mobile data network and the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Karaitiana Taiuru says he’s concerned to see conspiracy theories being spread by Māori online with no basis in science.
"It takes a little bit of research and if you can understand electromagnetic fields and radiation there is plenty of evidence out there that contradicts some of the conspiracy theories. it's more dangerous standing in front of your microwave when it is going than having a 5G tower by your house," he says.
Mr Taiuru says a chunk of 5G spectrum is being set aside for Māori, and those conversations should be about how this can best be used.
