Maori training company Te Whare Hukahuka has gone into partnership with Shopify to get indigenous businesses online.
Director Travis O’Keefe says the backing of the Canadian online retail giant will allow it to offer its eCommerce and digital marketing programme Ka Hao i te Ao to other indigenous nations.
There is also funding for free placements for Māori and Pasifika businesses.
It’s a major step up for the 8-year-old company.
"We’re going global, so that's what they are backing us to do, both financially and bringing in resources and expertise and a whole lot of their other assets to help other indigenous nations around the world. We're focusing on our social vision to improve the lives of 10 million indigenous people," Mr O'Kefe says.
Travis O’Keefe says COVID-19 has created huge interest in taking business online, with 186 businesses applying for the latest course compared with 17 in the last one.
