Navigators keep whanau strong through lockdown

An evaluation of South Island whānau ora commissioning agency Te Pūtahitanga’s COVID-19 campaign, Manaaki 20, has generated a big thumbs up for its whānau ora navigators.
Pouarahi Helen Leahy says rather than fixate on the virus, the organisation looked at how whānau could help each other.
Navigators have rung whānau weekly or even daily in some cases to check on progress and help them to view their situations with courage and confidence.
There was also an explosion of demand, with another 4000 new whānau seeking support since the start of lockdown – 600 more whānau than had been seen across the entire previous year.
Some of the 85 navigators have shared their stories in a new video series on the Te Pūtahitanga site.
