Call for Whanau Ora claim to be fast tracked
The Māori Party says a Waitangi Tribunal claim over Whanau Ora needs to be fast-tracked.
Five distinguished Māori women leaders including Māori Party co-founder Dame Tariana Turia lodged the claim the week complaining the Government is channelling some Whānau Ora funding to itself rather than putting it out through the commissioning agencies.
Māori Party president Che Wilson says the Whānau Ora concept was developed by the Māori Party to help whānau lead the funding and delivery of social services through three Māori-led commissioning agencies.
He says the Government has decided it knows best when it comes to welfare even though it continually fails in this area of service provision.
