Top of the South Island iwi Ngāti Apa ki te Rā Tō is offering a new scholarship to support the revitalisation of te reo Māori in its ranks.

It will cover course fees and $1000 a year towards court costs for selected members studying towards a bachelor’s degree in Māori.

It’s named the Kath Hemi Huia Kaimanawa Scholarship in honour of the late Kath Hemi QSM, who dedicated her life to the revitalisation ofNgāti Apa ki te Rā Tō language and cultural identity.
