Incredible results for Waipareira parenting programme
A parenting programme run by West Auckland Māori service provider Te Whānau o Waipareira delivers almost $4 in social value for every $1 spent.
That’s the finding of a new report that used the internationally recognised Social Return on Investment framework to measure the Incredible Years programme.
Social impact director Awerangi Tamihere says Waipareira has worked with more than 300 families over the past six years.
That allowed researchers to see what happens when organisations with the trust of communities and vulnerable families offer tested wraparound services.
"We reduced the risk of Oranga Tamariki uplifts. Parents on the programme got access to child custody and other parents reduced he risk of losing their child guardianship. The emotional development, cognitive development, sociability of the children just went through the roof in improvement. Parents came on as better, parents, improved family units, there was so much that was evident through this report," she says.
Awerangi Tamihere says the Ngā Tau Mīharo o Aotearoa report showed what workers on the ground knew intuitively, and its findings were verified internationally.
