Mangu sets pace for Ngāpuhi mahi tahi
The new chair of the Ngāpuhi Rūnanga has called for a review of its operations in the wake of the resignation of Sonny Tau.
Mere Mangu says that's no reflection on Mr Tau's stewardship, but normal practice for a new regime and done to give members confidence in the organisation.
She says under the rūnanga's constitution as the deputy she becomes the chair until the end of the current term, so she does not consider herself the acting or interim chair – even though she does expect to be challenged.
"When you're a leader people always want to pull you down and replace you, so that is nothing new. I'm about using this opportunity I have been given and looking forward to take Ngāpuhi to mahi tahi and find our own solutions about our own new ways of doing things, bringing those old ways back maybe or looking for new creations going forward," Ms Mangu says..
She hopes to report on progress by the rūnanga's annual meeting next month.
