New boss welcomed to TPK
Māori Development Minister Nanaia Mahuta has told the new head of Te Puni Kōkiri the Government relies on a strong and focused Māori ministry to create the right conditions for Māori to achieve their social and economic development aspirations.
Dave Tokohau Samuels from Waikato-Tainui, Te Whakatōhea was welcomed into his new role in Wellington this morning.
Ms Mahuta says the role comes with great expectations and anticipation for influencing whānau wellbeing outcomes across government.
She says Mr Samuels, a former senior policy manager at the ministry, understands Māori aspirations, the public sector and te ao Māori.
He also will bring an international perspective from working on trade issues for the Ministry for Primary Industries in the Middle East and China for the past five years.
