Wainuiomata papakainga show home opens
Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust has opened the first show home on its Te Puna Wai development in Wainuiomata.
The trust sold sections in the stalled and high risk Shelly Bay project so it could go ahead with the papakainga on the former Wainuiomata College site returned as part of the settlement.
Te Puni Kōkiri has put in $2.6 million for infrastructure costs for 23 housing sites and the construction of 11 kaumātua rental homes.
Under a pilot project, Te Ara Mauwhare, the trust was also provided with almost $1.7 million to build 15 homes that will be sold to iwi whānau under a shared equity agreement.
Māori Development and Associate Housing Minister Nanaia Mahuta, who attended yesterday’s blessing, says the trust is taking up every opportunity offered to them that will improve the lives of their whānau.
