Tūwharetoa lifts Lake Taupo rahui
Tūwharetoa has lifted raāui imposed on parts of Lake Taupo and the upper Waikato River after a wastewater spill into the lake.
Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board chief executive Topia Rameka says over the past six weeks the board has worked alongside marae representatives to oversee repairs to the infrastructure.
It has also implemented its monitoring plan which pulls together cultural data, water sampling, sediment sampling from the shore and lakebed, and māhinga kai sampling.
Analysis of that data shows Tapuaeharuru Bay has returned to normal, so karakia was held yesterday to lift the rāhui over the bay.
The restriction over the immediate construction site remains in place.
