Hippolite leaves TPK a growing service delivery agency

Outgoing Te Puni Kōkiri chief executive Michelle Hippolite says her successor may have to make a choice between continuing to grow the ministry's programme delivery capabilities or boost its monitoring and policy roles.
She says highlights of her six and a half years with the Ministry for Māori Development has been developing the Māori Housing Network and Kainga Ora programmes and establishing the Māori language promotion agency Te Mātāwai.
More recently it has been setting up a Māori land development service.
"Where we need to put a little more effort, and this is something I know and I am sure my successor will have to think through, is should it keep going and become a significant delivery agency, and or, should it focus back on seeking to influence what the rest of the public sector or state sector is doing for Māori," Ms Hippolite says.
The Ministry has gone through an extraordinary period of growth over the past six years.
