Manurewa Marae chair Rangi McLean has been elected vice president tāne of the Māori Party.
Mr McLean was the party's Tāmaki Makaurau candidate in 2014.
He says while everyone is talking wanting to help Māori development in the regions, the need is in Auckland where Māori are getting double taxed on petrol, housing is unaffordable, homelessness is highest, and the opportunity to bring value as Māori to the city is not yet realised.
He says a quarter of the Māori population is in Auckland.
