PGF boosts regional development agencies
The Government is priming the pump for its Provincial Growth Fund by providing extra funds for regional economic development agencies or other groups working in regional economic development.
Parliamentary Under-Secretary Fletcher Tabuteau says it will address short term capacity issues and make the organisations better able to propose and support projects and progress goals such as job creation.
Up to $200,000 a year will be available for each surge region, which include Taitokerau, Tairāwhiti, Bay of Plenty, Hawkes Bay, Manawatū, Whanganui and West Coast.
Mr Tabuteau says it’s not for central government to tell the regions what to do, so it’s important communities are able to shape the outcomes that will be driven by the fund.
