Dirty dealing says banned Tamihere
Former Labour cabinet minister and Auckland mayoral candidate John Tamihere says the refusal of the party’s ruling council to renew his membership is a dirty deal by an out of touch elite.
It’s the same council that endorsed Phil Goff standing again for the Auckland mayoralty, even though he has not yet announced his candidacy.
Mr Tamihere says there has been no due process or opportunity to state his case, and he hasn't been told why he can’t stay in the party.
"You know these guys don't even have the integrity or honesty to do that. They just send you a note to say 'your renewal's been declined.' You've got to be given a right to defend your mana if someone has impugned it. You can't have that done behind closed doors in a dirty little deal that they’ve done," he says.
Mr Tamihere says it looks like the Labour Party has been captured by an elite, in the same way it was during the Rogernomics era that Phil Goff was a part of.
