Ihumātao protesters plan Fletchers treaty wānanga
Opponents of a major housing development at Ihumātao are taking their protest to Wellington tomorrow morning.
SOUL Solidarity Pōneke spokesperson Te Ao Pritchard says the picket outside Fletcher Construction's Churton Park headquarters will demand the company respect Te Tiriti o Waitangi and cancel its plans to build on what he says is archaeologically and ecologically unique land.
She says the protest will take the form of a free treaty workshop, including waiata and shared kai.
Ms Pritchard says the development was colonisation in action, as the mana whenua were driven from from the land as part of the colonial invasion of Waikato.
