Kaipara kicks up stink over chicken mega-farm

Opponents of a planned chicken mega farm near Dargaville says multinational Tegel knows it’s in a fight to the end.
Almost 100 people protested outside the company’s Auckland headquarters yesterday, including whanau from Kapehu Marae which is next to the proposed site.
Dargaville Chicken Farm Community Information group member Rosie Donovan says while Tegel has suspended its consent application, locals know it will be back.
She says there’s no room for 1.3 million chickens in the areas.
"You can’t live that close to these (farms). They need a huge buffer zone. You might drive up here and think there's nobody living here. There's a lot of people living here and we might live here quietly but if you come along and try to plonk something in the middle of us, we are going to kick up a stink about it," she says.
Kaipara musicians will hold a benefit concert in Dargaville for the cause.
