Wāhine Māori head Māori Language Board

Victoria University academic Rawinia Higgins has been appointed the chair of Te Taura Whiri i Te Reo Māori for a three year term.
Professor Higgins from Ngai Tūhoe chaired the review of the Maori Language Bill under the previous Government.
She is also a member of the Waitangi Tribunal.
Charisma Rangipunga from Ngai Tahu was reappointed as a member and deputy chairperson.
Māori Development Minister Nanaia Mahuta says the appointments, recommended by Māori language body Te Mātāwai, will mean the promotion of te reo Māori as a living language will be in excellent hands.
