Green Budget massive win for ngahere
The Greens are celebrating the Budget as a win for the environment with the Department of Conservation getting another $181 million dollars over the next four years.
$81 million of that is to tackle rats, stoats, possums and other predators attacking native birds and plants on conservation land.
Co-leader Marama Davidson says it’s the biggest increase in the department’s budget in 20 years.
"Being able to look after more of our ground area, more of our native forest, is massive for us. That really does go to the heart of who we are as Maori and as New Zealanders and so that was a massive win and we should all be celebrating about that," she says.
Ms Davidson says it means DOC can cover more ground and protect the ngahere for generations to come.
