Wairoa venue boost for home teams
Hosting last year’s Te Matatini has given a boost to Kahungunu teams, with strong performances from roopu vying to get to next year’s event in Wellington.
It was the home team that prevailed in Wairoa over the weekend, with Te Rerenga Kotuku asserting its dominance.
Te Matatini regional representative Narelle Huata dsays shifting the regionals from Heretaunga to Wairoa had the effect of stimulating local pride and boosting participation.
Te Rangiura o Wairarapa came second, a new Wairoa group Matangirau third, and Ngati Ranginui makes up the quartet heading for Whanganui a Tara.
