Kaupapa for crown-Maori relations role to be set at hui
The Minister for Crown Maori Relations, Kelvin Davis, is going out to the motu to ask what his job should be.
The role was created by the new Government to acknowledge the winding down of the historical claim process which means post-settlement iwi have different expectations about the way they engage with government.
Mr Davis says he has a series of hui planned over the next month to hear what relationship Maori want and to get feedback on a draft framework.
"Talking about Maori participating in decision making, Maori being active participants in what we do and how we make decisions, all that sort of stuff. We will engage in face to face hui kanohi ki te kanohi, we will engage online, there will be live chats," he says.
The Hui start in Kaiataia on April 7.
