Help needed for camp groper
A Maori sexual harm specialist says the 20-year-old man who allegedly groped teenagers at a Labour Youth summer camp needs help.
Police have confirmed they are investigating sexual assault allegations at the Waihi camp, where young activists hear from party leaders and strategists and learn the basics of campaigning.
It is alleged the man put his hands down the pants of at least three 16-year-olds during an evening party.
Russell Smith from Korowai Tumanako says his group offers advice and training on how to supervise young people at large gatherings, including camps and tangi.
He says it's important help is offered quickly to anyone who was harmed.
It's also vital to get help to the perpetrator.
"If they don't address the behaviour that young person has done, that person is at risk of reharming, and they need to deal with the issue with the harmful behaviour," Mr Smith says.
