Proud westie Simon Bridges National leader
Simon Bridges is the new leader of the National Party, with Paula Bennett confirmed as his deputy.
The Taurangi MP went into today's vote looking about even with Amy Adams to replace Bill English in the job, with Judith Collins, Steven Joyce and Mark Mitchell considered only outside possibilities.
Describing himself as a proud westie and proud Maori, Mr Bridges said his job would be to hold the Jacinda Ardern-Winston Peters coalition to account and to present an ambitious and strong alternative Government, heading into 2020.
He said as deputy Ms Bennett brings great experience and ability to draw people together.
