Funding boost for RoboPa learning
Te Whare Wananga o Awanuiarangi has won a boost in funding for its RoboPa initiative to support the growth of computational thinking among Maori students.
The putea is coming from a Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment’s contestable fund to increase engagement in the so-called STEM subjects: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Awanuiarangi chief executive Wiremu Doherty says RoboPa engages rangatahi Maori with entrepreneurial thinking, modern technologies, software and equipment within a project framework that is culturally and te reo aligned.
RoboPa is run by the wananga’s Tokorau Institute for Indigenous Innovation in the Gisborne, Bay of Plenty, Auckland and Northland regions.
