English support appreciated by Maori Party
Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell is wishing Bill English the best as the National Party leader prepares to leave parliament.
He says the support of Mr English as finance minister was critical to what the Maori Party was able to achieve in government.
He says the relationship was truly mana-enhancing.
"I found Bill English straight up and down, a good man in the sense that he's honest, he works hard, he had high expectations of people but was fair. He was willing to listen to your argument and go backwards and forwards on it. He gave me great advice as a minister and personal friend and was absolutely supportive of us as a Maori Party," Mr Flavell says.
So far Amy Adams, Simon Bridges and Judith Collins have put their names in the ring to succeed Bill English as National Party leader.
