Crown-Maori relationship vital to new cabinet


Labour deputy leader Kelvin Davis takes on the new portfolio of crown-Maori relationships as the new Labour-led government looks at the transition to a post treaty settlement environment in the cabinet line up announced today.
The Te Taitokerau MP also gets Corrections, Tourism and Associate Education with responsibility for Maori education.
Nanaia Mahuta picked up the Maori Development portfolio as well as Local Government and associate Environment.
The critical Treaty Negotiations role went to Andrew Little, who also picked up responsibility for Justice, Courts, the GCSB and SIS, as well as overseeing the attempted re-entry to recover bodies from the Pike River Mine on the West Coast.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern will take responsibility for Child Poverty Reduction as well as National Security and intelligence and Arts, Culture and Heritage.
As expected Winston Peters will be deputy prime minister as well as Minister for Foreign Affairs, State Owned Enterprises and Racing.
Fellow New Zealand First MP Shane Jones will oversee Forestry, Infrastructure, and Regional Development and be an associate minister of Finance and Transport.
