Maisey Rika dominates awards


Singer/songwriter Maisey Rika was the big winner at the 10th Waiata Maori Music Awards, taking the Best Traditional Maori Album, Female Solo Artist, best song and best songwriter awards.
Troy Kingi was judged best Maori pop artist and best male solo artist.
Other winners at the event in Hastings included Rei, also known as Callum Rei McDougall from Wellington, in the urban artist category, and Israel Starr who won the roots/reggae award.
Best video was Stan Walker’s New Takeover, directed and produced by Shae Sterling,.
And look out for singer Kaaterama Pou from the Maimoa Music collective, who won the under 25 emerging artist section, and Ohakune-based roots/reggae band Common Unity in the over 25 category.
