Holding Te Taitokerau critical for Davis
Labour's new deputy leader says he won't cede the fight to hold Te Taitokerau for Labour.
Supporters of Mana leader Hone Harawira say now Mr Davis has gone back on the Labour list, a tick for the man he ousted in 2014 will give voters in the north two MPs for the price of one.
Mr Davis says despite his elevation within the party caused by Andrew Little quitting as leader, he remains committed to improving outcomes for Maori and for the people of Taitokerau … and he has to win the seat.
"You know you always like to have the mandate of the people. I know about the sympathy vote for the other fellow and 'two for the price of one' or something like that. Well this is the deal for the Taitokerau. Vote for me and you get me as the MP for Taitokerau. Vote for me and you get me as deputy prime minister. Now how is that going to be for the people of Taitokerau," he says.
Kelvin Davis says new Labour leader Jacinda Ardern is a stunning person who will be a great prime minister.
