Mei Taare ready for Te Tai Tonga challenge

The Maori Party’s Te Tai Tonga candidate says she couldn’t resist the challenge.
Mei Taare stood for Labour in the Bay of Plenty 15 years ago and says that was a harrowing experience.
But she says she has gained a lot in recent years through being a board member of Te Runanga o Ngati Porou.
The former television journalist was approached the Maori Party only a couple of weeks ago to stand for the seat, which covers the South Island, Chatham Islands, Wellington city and Lower Hutt.
"If people are going to ask you to step up,if there is a leadership role they are asking you to fill, and you say no, it's like everything, you just need to shut up in future. And I'm really thrilled it is the Maori Party that has asked me to do this because I feel like this is a natural home, not just for me as a Maori but it is the natural home for all Maori," Ms Taare says.
