Kaumatua kapa haka draws crowds to Te Papa
Te Papa will this weekend play host to 430 kaumatua keen to prove they can still swing a classy poi.
The kaumatua kapa haka has become a highlight of Wellington’s annual Matariki celebrations.
Event manager Mere Boynton says the old people love coming back to the national museum to show off the old songs and routines.
"We’ve got 11 teams from Whanganui, Auckland Maori Anglican Club, Taitokerau, Ngati Whatua, Kahungunu, Ngai Tahu, Taranaki, Te Hokowhitu Atu, Waikato of course, and Whanganui a Tara," she says.
There will be a link on Te Papa’s website to a YouTube channel live streaming the performances.
