Minister challenged to defend land law liar claim

Ikaroa Rawhiti MP Meka Whatiri has challenged Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell to debate his Ture Whenua Maori Bill, rather than stand on the sidelines calling its critics liars.
Ms Whaitiri says the Maori Party co-leader is attempting to shut down debate on his unpopular Maori land reforms, but even he has landowners were confused.
What he won't admit is that is because of the bill's complexity, the way it keeps changing, or poor consultation.
She says calling people liars – including his political ally Hone Harawira – is gutter politics.
Ms Whaitiri says the minister has shown contempt for the Waitangi Tribunal and the Maori Land Court, ignored the concerns of landowners, and tried to make multiple amendments to the bill without public scrutiny.
