O’Sullivan tirade to immunise film audience

Kaitaia GP Lance O'Sullivan says he would be concerned if the audience for a documentary on vaccination go on to spread the falsehoods it contains into their workplaces.
Dr O'Sullivan took the stage at a screening of Vaxxed in the far north town on Monday to denounce the film and the push to deny the safety and effectiveness of mass immunisation campaigns.
He says the film is based on studies that have been thoroughly discredited.
While the screening drew fewer than 20 people, he was concerned it included professionals with taxpayer-funded jobs to provide services to vulnerable communities and children.
"Social work services, midwives, educationalists were sitting in the audience validating this rubbish and I called them out. I said this is incompatible with your job and your purpose to serve the communities we are all here to serve," Dr O'Sullivan says.
He says Vaxxed is part of a campaign of misinformation that is leading to lower immunisation rates around the world and an increase in deaths of children from preventable diseases.
