Maori employment rate up
The Maori employment rate as increased by 1.7 percent but one in 10 Maori still don’t have a job, according to the March quarter Household Labour Force Survey.
That’s more than twice the overall unemployment rate of 4.9 percent.
Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister Paul Goldsmith says the result shows the economy continues to deliver for New Zealanders
He says 29,000 more Kiwis were employed in the past three months as job growth outstripped population growth.
There was strong growth in construction with 16,000 new jobs, including 3600 in Waikato.
The rate of young people not in employment, education or training fell to 12.8 per cent, down from 13.5 per cent in the previous quarter.
