Development land for Te Akitai

South Auckland iwi Te Akitai Waiohua is in line for a $9 million settlement after signing an agreement in principle last week.
Treaty Negotiations Minister Christopher Finlayson says the parties will now work on a deed of settlement.
The package includes the opportunity to buy more than 10 hectares in Manukau and enter into an agreement with the Crown to develop it for housing through the Crown Land Programme.
The settlement won’t cover the iwi’s claims regarding the Manukau and Waitemata harbours, which will be addressed through separate negotiations between the Crown and others.
