GPs’ grant to drive Ngati Whatua bus
Te Runanga o Ngati Whatua hopes to improve access to health services for rural and isolated Maori communities in its rohe by fitting out a mobile health van with appropriate clinical equipment to carry out health checks at home and at the marae.
The initiative has been funded by a grant from the ProCare Charitable Foundation, which was set up by the ProCare network of more than 180 general practices across greater Auckland to promote health and well-being of disadvantaged communities.
Foundation chair June McCabe says seven charities are being helped this year with grants totalling more than $200,000.
Other grants include funding for the Big Buddy Mentoring Trust to expand into south Auckland.
The Anxiety New Zealand Trust got money for a community awareness and education treatment programme with a focus on Maori, Pacific and Asian and lower socio-economic families.
The Upside Downs Education Trust got funding for speech language therapy for children with Down syndrome.
