Ambitious development for Ngati Paoa

Ngati Paoa has unveiled plans for an ambitious development at Te Tauoma-Point England.
As part of its Treaty of Waitangi Settlement it is buying an 11 hectare reserve, on which it will build 300 dwellings.
Building and Housing Minister Nick Smith says enabling legislation will be introduced into parliament today.
He says 20 percent of the homes will be affordably-priced, and another 20 percent will be for social housing.
A further 2 hectares of the reserve closer to the Tamaki River will be provided for development of a marae as part of the tribe’s cultural redress.
The project will complement the adjacent Tamaki regeneration project.
Dr Smith says the Point England Reserve has been poorly used for decades, with 18 hectares of it used for grazing cows.
