Iwi offered apartment development
The government has earmarked a half hectare site at Te Atatu for apartments, with Nga Mana Whenua o Tamaki Makaurau being offered first chance to do the development.
Building and Housing Minister Nick Smith says the Titoki St site is suitable for 60 apartments.
It is now surplus oncethe New Zealand Transport Agency finished the nearby motorway interchange.
Dr Smith says 20 per cent of the dwellings must be sold below the HomeStart cap of $650,000 and 20 per cent will be made available for social housing.
The announcement follows last week’s deal where Ngai Tai ki Tamaki and Gemscott Resources Limited agreed to develop apartments for Housing New Zealand social housing on a 1.2 hectare former Transport Agency site at Waterview.
