Tamaki-style overhaul for Northcote state houses
Northcote is the latest area to face an upheaval in its state housing.
The Minister Responsible for Housing New Zealand, Bill English, says about 300 state homes will be turned into 1200 in the $750 million project.
The result will be 100 extra social housing units and 600 to 800 houses that will be sold as a mix of affordable and market housing.
The work will be integrated with a revitalisation of the Northcote town centre.
The development is being overseen by Housing New Zealand subsidiary the Hobsonville Land Company, and takes advantage of intensification changes in the new Auckland Unitary Plan.
Mr English says the company has committed to ongoing engagement with local iwi to understand and respond to their interests in the land at Northcote.
