Rugby players need off field rules
Former Silver Fern and rugby international turned MP Louisa Wall says New Zealand Rugby needs to develop protocols around off-field events in the wake of the Chiefs stripped debacle.
A woman calling herself Scarlette complained she was groped and threatened by players from the Waikato franchise during a Mad Monday end of season event, and the players then refused to pay her full fee.
Ms Wall says rugby needs to catch up with the Warriors, who have clear rules about what happens on and off tour.
"So what I'm expecting to happen will be some protocols New Zealand rugby are going to have to work through with every franchise. Just to be clear that there are expectations about how the players behave in public and also to protect the players sponsors etc. So that if they want to have fun and games they do it in a non-public space and they have got people who are actually looking after them," she says.
The Manurewa MP says she's disappointed by the poor behaviour of what she considers as her team.
