Charlie Tepana appointed to Te Taura Whiri board
A former member of the 2014 Ministerial Maori Language Advisory Group which helped rewrite the Maori Language Act has been appointed to the board of Te Taura Whiri O Te Reo Maori
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell says Charlie Tepana is a graduate of Panekiretanga, the Institute of Maori Language Excellence, and has a high level of fluency and a strong commitment to te reo and tikanga Maori.
He also has experience in community language initiatives in education, with a particular focus on language planning.
This included playing a leading role in the implementation of the Raukawa tribal Maori language revitalisation strategy.
Mr Tepana replaced Te Awanuiarangi Black, who has served two terms as deputy chair.
