Hub to draw kids back to school

Education Minister Hekia Parata has opened a learning hub in Whanganui as part of the new Express to Success programme to help Maori get their National Certificate of Educational Achievement.
The new hub at Whanganui City College will also serve Cullinane College and Whanganui Girls College.
Another hub will open in Raetihi, and there are already hubs in Kaikohe, Mangere, Hamilton, Gisborne and Kawerau.
Ms Parata says they provide an opportunity for Maori aged 16 to 18 years who left school without NCEA to get back on track, catch up or get ahead with their NCEA Level 2 qualification.
She says the hubs are designed to involve the whole whanau, and to connect parents with their children’s learning says Ms Parata.
