Te Ohu Kaimoana accepts urban challenge

The Maori fisheries settlement trust Te Ohu Kaimoana says it intends to engage with urban Maori groups about what it needs to do about a High Court judgment criticising the administration of Te Putea Whakatupu Trust.
The trust administers a $20 million fund to promote education, training and research.
The money was set aside to reflect the fact some Maori would not receive fisheries settlement benefits through their iwi, but over the past decade iwi have dominated the way it is used.
The court says in future all directors must be able to represent the interests of urban Maori.
Te Ohu Kaimoana says the court has clarified legislative ambiguity over the appointment of directors.
