Wananga feeds hunger for education
The new chair of Te Wananga o Aotearoa wants to ensure the organisation remains focused on the needs of the Maori community and the Maori workforce.
Vanessa Eparaima has stepped into the role vacated after eight years by Richard Batley of steering the country’s largest Maori tertiary institution.
She comes from a tourism background, and also chairs the Ngati Raukawa Settlement Trust and serves on the boards of several iwi commercial organisations.
She says the wananga’s vision of transforming whanau through education will remain at the heart of what it does.
"We’re filling that gap where our Maori people are hungry for education. We want them to be hungry for education and we want to fill the need for them in a way that suits them," Ms Eparaima says.
