Spectacular end to Matariki festival
The stars are out for the close of Auckland’s Matariki Festival this weekend
Coordinator Anahera Higgins says the festival has been exceptional both because of the engagement with mana whenua and the exceptional Maori talent on display.
To mark the final week of the Matariki Festival, the Sky Tower is lit in shades of orange like a sunrise.
The base of the Sky Tower is the venue for Friday evening’s Te Korakora on Federal, including a fashion show organised by Sonia Tawhiao, Rob Ruha and Trinity Roots rocking the stage, and the launch of the Poi 360 app featuring the Patea Maori Club and others.
" Now that’s going to be truly beautiful to see, I'm really looking forward to seeing that. Lanita (Ririnui Ryan) Ngatapa (Black), Amomai (Pihama) and co have put together an amazing piece of mahi. We've got Hoani Waititi performing with them as well as our Patea Maori Club coming in to perform with that piece as well. That's really early that's six o'clock , so if whanau what to see that I'd get there really early," says Anahera Higgins.
Silo Park on the waterfront will be in full swing from Friday to Sunday with events, installations, music and the Matariki market.
