Measurements will pressure mainstream
Labour MP Nanaia Mahuta has challenged Whanau Ora providers to come up with ways of measuring their outcomes that can also be applied to mainstream agencies.
The Hauraki Waikato MP fronted up to this week’s Measuring What Matters hui to tackling criticism Labour was being too negative about the new service delivery model.
She told the hui hosted by North Island Whanau Ora commissioning agency Te Pou Matakana that she is still concerned about the failure of agencies like the ministries of Social Development, Health and Education to be fully integrated in the model.
The challenge for a future Labour-led government will be to tackle systemic inequality.
She says if Whanau Ora providers can prove they are producing more with less, that will put the heat on Treasury to demand systemic change from other agencies.
