Ngai Tahu Tourism scholarship
After building up a large portfolio of tourism businesses, Ngai Tahu is investing in the people who will run them in future.
Ngai Tahu Tourism has set up a new scholarship, Te Pia Tapoi, for Ngai Tahu students.
Chief executive Quinton Hall says the tribe is looking for the future stars who can see the potential of its tourism business and want to make their mark.
The scholarship will include $6000 a year towards course fees as well as the chance for paid holiday work at its businesses in Queenstown, Rotorua or Franz Josef.
There will also be opportunities to grow cultural skills and learn more about the iwi.
Applicants must be registered with the Ngai Tahu Whakapapa Unit and be enrolling, or currently studying for an NZQA-approved tertiary qualification in tourism.
Mr Hall says the tourism industry is one of New Zealand’s fastest growing industry sectors, and the company wants to help more Ngai Tahu build careers in it develop as leaders.
